Love in this Faith

“We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing.” 2 Thessalonians 1:3

If we believe that the eye of God (who is a spirit) is always upon us, that we have spiritual enemies to grapple with, that there is a world of spirits to prepare for (vs 6), we shall see reason to watch and be sober as love in this faith (increasing love for God and humanity, which is our good works Ephesian2:8-18, James 2:8) will be our best defence against the assaults of our enemies.

For real, we must get a heart inflamed with love; and this will be our defence. True and fervent love to God, and the things of God, will keep us watchful and sober, and hinder our apostasy in times of trouble and temptation as we will truthfully live with others way God wills.

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:11‭-‬12.

Moreover, we must in this life i.e. at all times, make salvation our hope and should have a lively hope of it (This good hope, of eternal life, through grace, will be as a helmet to defend the head, and hinder our being intoxicated with the pleasures of sin, which are but for a season). If we have hope of salvation, let us beware of doing any thing off-love of God, nor against our self or our fellows, that can shake our faith, or render us unworthy of or unfit for “the great salvation” we hope for “which is eternal” till we attain. Having mentioned salvation and the hope of it made effective by love, vice versa, we must know that they stream-flow together to attain increasingly special Faith in God, I pray to God to give you the grace to make heaven at Last, in Jesus Name.
