”And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;” Romans 1:28
Since some of us did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave such up to a debased mind. This is who we are by nature, since some do not want to see God as worthy of knowing well talkless of treasuring Him above all things. We both know this is true about some of us because of how little effort we expend to know God, and because of how much effort it takes to make our mind spend any time getting to know God better. The Bible made it clear that we have “exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man” in verse 23. And the image in the mirror, which are not even real nor of God’s nature, are the mortal images, acts and seasons we worship and celebrate most. That’s what’s wrong with our minds, and it is beyond psychology, philosophy, theology etc, since they would rather prove it right than wrong.
Notwithstanding, In order not to fall the victim and in order to escape the cheat/wickedness/errors that might have or may likely want to proceed from our heart: We are dully advices to present our bodies i.e. our whole active life “as a living sacrifice which is our spiritual service of worship.” So the aim of all life and existence is not just to act/live base on our little knowledge but to believe, acknowledge and worship of God. Simply put, we are to use our whole lives to display the worth of God and all that He is for us in Christ.
You will agree with me that it now makes perfect sense when verse 2 says that, in order for that to happen, our minds must be renewed. Why? Because our minds are not by nature God-worshiping minds, since they are by nature self-worshiping minds. This is why we all have to start and continue to pray to God for renewal of His Spirit within us (Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me), for us to be more actively willing and retaining God in our individual knowledge, with the help of Holy Spirit. Success!
