”Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:”.. 1 Peter 1:13-14.
It is time to consider the way Peter describes our mind-problem in our quote today, “..Prepare your minds for action..be patient and hopeful of the grace God grants..do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance concerning lusts on all forms of wickedness and corruption (sin).”
Someone would like to ask “is that all?” No!,as the case may be, but of course, those and many more are forms of practical ignorance towards God i.e. a willful suppression of the truth of God. We must be aware that this ignorance in favour of sins is against God, thereby making us slaves to many passions and desires that would lose their power if we knew God as we ought. Paul calls these passions of our former ignorance “desires of deceit” which we call “lusts that grips the mind, killing and looting the conscience thereof, off concern even in presence of knowledge” (See: Romans 1:18; Ephesians 4:22).
At this junction, we must also note that “wrong passions gathers in small particles to form strong shields of ignorance against arrows of reality/truth, while it absolutely adopts or increases or energizes wrong desires”…on and on like that from within the mind: That is why they are life-ruining, worship-destroying desires, and they get their life and their power from the deceit of our minds. Notwithstanding, I must tell you, that there is a kind of knowledge of God which we must beg Holy Spirit for, knowing that it is all for renewal of our mind “that transforms us” because it liberates us from the deceit and the power of ignorance as well as evil/wrong passions. I bid you Heaven at last in Jesus name!
