”He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” Ecclesiastes 5:10; Hebrews 13:5.
It was nice yesterday and I am sure today will be cool as well. Hope you got some Box of gifts this Christmass? Was it as much as you wished? Are you contempted with it? I remember a story of a man of some wealth who overheard a lady remarking, “Oh, if I only had N20,000 I would be perfectly content.” He thought about that for a few moments..if the lady only had fifty dollars she would be content..he thought to himself, “Well, I can help her out!”..so he walked up to her and handed her a N20,000 bill with his best wishes. Wow! She was very overt in her show of gratitude..she really appreciated his gift. But, as she walked away he heard her mumble under her breath, “Why on earth didn’t I say N50,000?” Have you ever said thought of something like that? I know I have.
We need to learn to be content with what we have (see Philippians 4:12; Psalm 78:18), because “a little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked ..godliness with contentment is great gain ..having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” Christmas can be either a time of thanking God for what we have, or Christmas can be the peak of our discontentment. May our Loving God bless and help us to be content in HIM in Jesus’ name, Amen! Shalom!
