Gospel today.

Often times, situations arise that make people question the existence of God. Some do not just question his existence but also his power and his ability to help the believer when faced with challenges at times. People begin to ask questions like; if your God was the God he claimed to be, why didn’t he save your mum? Why did your business fail?

I thought you said you were serving God, but you just failed an exam, didn’t you? If God loved you so much, why did he allow you fail? When Lazarus died, the people said the same thing about Jesus at the time, didn’t they? Yes, they did. They were of the opinion that if Christ could heal the sick, and do other miracles as they heard and saw, why did he allow his own friend to die?

These and many more are the experiences believers have, and need to contend with. The Psalmist was also in a similar position. When those who do not know God begin to ask you the question, where is your God? Let’s look at the verses of scripture below.

“My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? [5] Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance”. (Psalm 42:3,5).

For the Psalmist, it got to a point that he could no longer do anything but to weep day and night because they continually doubted the existence and power of His God to deliver him.

His soul was cast down and disquieted, that is, he was discouraged, and could give no answer to their questions, but to just remain quiet until he found a secret.

He said there was no need to be bothered about such questions but for him to hope in God(to look up to him, and continue following him) and that though others may doubt his existence, he knows that God is, and he will continue to praise him.

Dear believer, though many may ask, where is your God? They may doubt his existence and his power to save but you do not have to be discouraged. Why? That’s because you know who he is, where he is, and what he can do. Do not lose focus of this but hope in the Lord and continue to praise him.

“Thought for the day: While others may doubt very much the existence and power of God, you do not need to be discouraged for you know who he is(the all powerful God), where he is(with you), and what he can do(all things). Keep trusting and praising the Lord.
