The gospel according to Mark chapter nine(9) gives an account about a man who had brought his son to the disciples of Jesus to be healed but they by themselves could not heal him. This indeed created a scene and at the time, Jesus wasn’t with them.
Prior to this time, the boy in question had suffered so much from the sickness for so the Father told the Lord Jesus, and that he had been with the sickness ever since he was a child, for the Lord had also asked him. It had thrown him into the fire at some point and many other things had happened to him.
As a father, having experienced this, wanted this sickness to leave his son, but was seeing his hope being dashed against the wall as the disciples of Jesus could not heal his son. Little wonder he couldn’t hold back anything from Jesus when he asked him. Let’s consider the verses of scripture below,
“And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth”. ( Mark 9:22-23)
This was the man telling Jesus what happened to the son before the time he had brought him to be healed, and out of a true desire to see his son get well, and seeing that the disciples couldn’t heal him, he had to fix his eyes solely on Jesus saying to him that if he could do anything, he should please do (have compassion on us and help us).
Did you notice the response of Jesus in verse 23? It is something every believer needs to bear in mind. Jesus didn’t say, “I am sorry you had to go through that, you must have been through a lot, and I don’t know if I can help with this”. No! He didn’t do that. Why? Because he had the power to heal the son but only needed the man to believe.
So he said to him, the problem is not with me but with you, I can do anything, and in fact I’ve had compassion on you and I’ve helped you but you need to believe to see its manifestation (if you can believe, all things are possible to you if you believe, meaning his son could be healed if he believed). This the man did and his son was healed.
Dear believer, the Lord is ever ready to help, he can do anything and everything but all he needs for you to do is to believe. He wants you to completely rest in his ever unfailing power to help you. That situation can come to and end, just anything is possible with Christ for you if only you can believe.
Thought for the day: If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes (in Christ’s unfailing power to do anything and everything).
